What EQ's Move to Classical Pilates Means for You

Following our recent article about EQ's move towards Classical Pilates, many of you have asked what that means in practice.

This article is simply here to explain what you can expect, what may evolve, and what will remain exactly the same.

Most importantly, EQ will continue to be the welcoming, supportive community you've always known.

This is an invitation, not an exclusion

Whenever a studio changes, it's natural to wonder what it means for you.

You might be asking whether classes will feel different, whether Classical Pilates is "for you", or whether you'll still fit in if you've never thought of yourself as a classical Pilates enthusiast.

The answer is simple: yes.

This transition isn't about becoming more exclusive. It's about creating a clearer pathway for everyone.

Whether you're new to Pilates or have been with us for years, you're invited to come with us.

We're building on what we've learned

Over the years, we've learned a great deal about teaching, learning and running a studio.

We've also learned that every part of a studio should have a purpose. Every class, every piece of equipment and every square foot of space should support the wider system.

As we've planned the future of EQ, we've tried to ask a simple question:

How can we create a studio that teaches you the Pilates method as effectively as possible?

One studio, one shared experience

Over the years, EQ has grown into a collection of different spaces, including our class areas and Joe's Gym.

As we move towards a fully classical model, we're bringing those elements together into a single training environment that better reflects Pilates as a connected system.

Rather than operating across separate rooms, we'll be creating a more integrated studio designed to support learning, practice and progression.

For some clients, that may feel like a big change.

But the more we've studied the classical system, the more we've realised that Pilates works best when viewed as a complete whole rather than a collection of separate activities.

In many ways, this feels like a return to something simpler.

  • A single space.

  • A shared experience.

  • One studio.

Class sizes will remain similar to those you're used to, and we're also exploring ways to make mat classes accessible to even more people.

Investing in the future of the studio

This transition also represents a significant investment in the future of EQ.

As part of our move towards a fully classical environment, we'll be upgrading to all -new new Legacy apparatus designed to support the method as it was originally intended to be taught.

As our equipment is upgraded, it will create opportunities for new ways of learning and practising the method, while giving clients access to apparatus that many people only encounter during specialist training.

For us, this isn't simply about replacing equipment. It's about creating an environment that supports the full Pilates system for years to come.

Why Towers are replacing the Cadillac

One of the changes you'll see is a move from Cadillac units to Towers.

The reason is simple: flexibility. Towers allow us to teach much of the work we currently teach while also making space available for mat classes and group programming.

It's not about losing something important.

It's about creating opportunities for more people to experience the method while making better use of the space we have.

We’re upgrading our Reformers too

As we've spent more time studying the classical system, we've become increasingly aware of how much the apparatus influences the exercises themselves.

The dimensions, spring tension and overall design all play a role in how movements feel and function.

As part of this transition, our Reformers will better reflect the equipment the classical system was originally designed around.

For clients, that means a more connected and authentic experience of the method.

Clearer progression

One of the changes we're most excited about is creating clearer progression pathways.

Rather than everyone trying to fit into the same structure, you'll see a more defined journey through beginner, intermediate and advanced work.

That doesn't mean classes will become intimidating.

It means you'll have a clearer sense of where you are, what you're working towards and how your practice can develop over time.

You'll also see Reformer and mat classes following the classical order more closely, helping everything connect together as part of one system.

You'll see more mixed-apparatus classes

Classical Pilates was never intended to exist on a single piece of equipment.

The method works as a complete system.

As EQ evolves, you'll see more opportunities to experience that system through a combination of apparatus, rather than treating each piece of equipment as a separate discipline.

We're excited about the possibilities this creates for learning, progression and variety within the studio.

Wunda Chair classes are coming

One of the exciting possibilities created by the studio's evolution is the introduction of Wunda Chair classes.

The Wunda Chair is one of the most versatile pieces of apparatus in the classical system. Challenging, supportive and surprisingly adaptable, it offers a completely different way to experience the Pilates method.

Until now, the Wunda Chair has primarily been available through Joe's Gym and private sessions.

We're excited to help clients discover how the Chair connects with the work they already know on the Reformer and Mat, while opening the door to a whole new side of the Pilates system.

What won't change

While some things are evolving, many things will stay exactly the same.

  • You'll still be taught by amazing teachers.

  • You'll still receive the same care, encouragement and attention to detail.

  • You'll still be welcomed through the door.

  • And you'll still be part of the same community.

Our move towards Classical Pilates doesn't mean becoming different people. It means creating a studio that reflects the method we love.

The next chapter

This transition isn't about chasing trends.

It's the result of years of study, teaching and practical experience.

We're creating a studio where the teaching, equipment and philosophy work together more clearly and more effectively.

Most importantly, we're creating a studio that continues to grow while bringing its clients along for the journey.

We're excited about what's ahead.

And we hope you'll come with us.
