TRUST THE BUILD
Why You’re Not Doing Candlestick in Your First Class
Let’s be honest — showing up to your first Pilates class and expecting the advanced repertoire isn’t going to serve you. And if that’s frustrated you in the past, this is for you.
We will get you there. That’s literally the job.
But before we hand you the advanced work, we’re going to make you strong. Properly strong. The kind of strong where your body isn’t just going through the motions — it understands what it’s doing and why. That foundation is what makes the exciting exercises actually work, and more importantly, keeps you safe when you get there.
Some exercises aren’t group class exercises.
This isn’t us holding out on you. Some movements require a level of individual attention that simply isn’t possible when we’re teaching a room full of people. A one-to-one session gives us the space to watch you closely, correct in real time, and progress you at exactly the right pace. If we’ve recommended privates, it’s because we can see what’s possible for you and we want to do it properly.
In a group class, we teach to the room.
Every class is different — because every combination of people is different. The mix of bodies, experience levels, histories, and needs in front of us shapes every single session. Deciding what’s appropriate for this group, on this day, is part of our job as teachers. It’s not arbitrary. It’s not us playing it safe for the sake of it. It’s a considered decision made in the moment, for the people in the room.
So if you didn’t do a candlestick today, trust that there was a reason.
The build is the work.
The exercises that look impressive exist at the top of a long pyramid of preparation. Every class you show up to, every repetition, every time you’re asked to do something that feels almost too simple — that’s the pyramid being built. And when we finally introduce the advanced work, you’ll feel the difference. It won’t just look right. It will feel right.
Trust your teachers. Trust the process. The good stuff is coming.
